Hebrews 12:1-2Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. Q: What is JOY? A: Joy is an integral part of our salvation in Chirst. It is an inner peace and delight in God the Father, the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirt, and in the blessing that flows from our relationship with them. It does not come automatically, but is experienced as we maintain an abiding relationship with Christ. Our joy becomes greater when the Spirit mediates a deep sense of God's presence and nearness in our lives. Jesus taught that the fullness of joy is inseparably connected to our remaining in his Word, loving others, obeying his commands and being separated from the world. Joy as a delight in God's nearness and his redemptive gifts cannot be destroyed by pain, suffering, weakness or difficult circumstances. (Life in the Spirit, NIV study bible, page 1870 Note: 1:4) Q: If this is true, why do we suffer? A: Romans 5:1-4 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of GOD. Not only so, but we rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character, hope. |
